Letter to Editor as a Candidate Southern Grampians Shire Council

I would like to thank the residents and ratepayers for their continued support for me as one of your seven Councillors.

I am excited about the potential of the candidates standing in 2020. Diversity, ability with fresh ideas and attitude.

When you vote for change, like I will be doing, I hope you also include a representative with experience and commitment to supporting a new council.  Local Government done differently, more effectively.

My campaign priorities include reform of how an elected Council operates, to move the balance of power back to your elected representatives.

Tourism development throughout our ten townships will bring increased outside dollars into our local economy, improve our community assets, increase our population with more ratepayers which will help spread the burden of funding our services.

Council gets regular internal reports and comments about Southern Grampians having too many swimming pools, tennis courts, halls and buildings to maintain.  With a new council we can turn this attitude around.  We are ready for repopulating.

We have great choices in places to live and with better digital connectivity, roads and public transport, including passenger rail, we are truly open for more business.

You can find more detail on my website or facebook.

Congratulations are in order to how our regional community has handled the challenges of COVID19 during 2020.  Creative and supportive.  A special Shout Out to Get me a Gig participants and organisers.  I look forward to hearing the winners perform live-streamed again soon.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Katrina Rainsford
